Nokia, which is a mobile manufacturing company that owns a number of proprietary patents, has sold its messaging unit to Synchronica. The UK company plans on becoming a world force in the mobile messaging market. Although the deal won’t be finalized until the end of this year, Synchronica has promised to continue to serve Nokia Series 40 phone owners with email and text messaging capabilities.
Executives at Synchronica believe that buying Nokia’s messaging business will help it to expand its reach in the mobile messaging market. Nokia has experienced a number of major changes recently. First, the company discontinued its Symbian operating system and picked up Microsoft’s software. Now, it plans on selling its lucrative messaging business to Syncronica, a company that already serves more than six million people worldwide while providing invaluable messaging services.
Nokia won’t just be selling patents and software – it will also be parting ways with about 250 employees. Since Nokia’s headquarters are already in Europe, the transition to Syncronica should be smooth. Hopefully Nokia will be able to focus on developing new smart phones with better technologies. With the iPhone dominating the market and Android based phones quickly closing the gap, there are a great deal of smart phone manufacturers that could fall by the wayside. Syncronica also thinks that it will be able to build a better mobile messaging platform, thanks to its recent acquisition. The company may be big news in the UK, but it wants to be known all over the world.
